i just finished replacing the timing components(all of them guides sprockets etc). have everything back to get car cranks but no start i have fuel and spark. A little background info on the car i picked it up becuase the prev owner thought the timing chain broke but what really happened was the tensioner failed. car wasnt out of timing when i removed everything. I have the locking tool and flywheel bolt and everything was put at tdc. car just cranks over not super strong per say and has a wierd noise when its cranking over. Car will just backfire sometimes, any ideas before i pull this one and just get a new one.

thats what im thinking ken im checking with my other m42 to see where the crank should be at tdc. because i can lock the flywheel at two positions and on the engine i locked it at the top position.Strategic nw e30 commandOriginally posted by bmwm42PNW vulture pm me for partsComment

cam gears are at tdc. wierd thing is this isnt my first time ive done this many times to my engine but this one that i just aquired i have no history on it other than it just died and the mechanic shop saying it was the timing chain that broke(i knew that was bullshit) but i took it apart the tensioner came aparts and the upper and lower guides were fucked and the slide rail was really worn down both where the chain goes over and where the pistion pushes on it.Strategic nw e30 commandOriginally posted by bmwm42PNW vulture pm me for partsComment
