What is this hose? Picture included

Was checking my air filter today and a hose off the back of it connected to a plastic piece that would be used to connect two hoses together. Well the end of the plastic piece plugs into the hose in the picture (screw driver is pointing at it).

This hose has a large crack in it and appears to be oddly shaped where it goes back against the block. I can't see where the other end went.

What is the name of this hose so I can purchase a replacement, and what all needs to be removed to change it out?

Also while I have your attention, does all that oil look light it might be coming from the valve cover gasket?

You sir have to deal with your mess under the intake ;). It's okay, I do too...my brakes are super hard. And yes all that oil is from the VC gasket.

It's a common m42 problem. Basically every hose will be cracked/split like that.

Basically there are a bunch of hoses running to various things under the intake. As they get old, they will get brittle and crack, causing vacuum leaks and make the engine run poorly. A lot of it you can just eliminate and make simpler, which means less points of failure.

The 180˚ thrust bearing is indeed retarded.

However there is nothing wrong with the original timing components so long as the tensioner piston is updated to the newer version in a timely fashion. :D

The thing is, if one of the hoses is cracked, more then likely ALL of them will be as they wear at the same rate. The price of all new hoses FAR exceeds the price of a few fittings and a few feet of standard hose.

#15 I think, but it is hard to tell from just the picture. You will need to pull it out and verify.

Do the "mess under the intake mod" I've had it on 2 different m42's both with silicone hose and never had any vacuum leak issues(not that hard (remove TB and upper intake) and check your injector while you're in there and replace the little bits of HP fuel line that are hidden in there))
