    Z3 1.9 elec fan direct swap ?

I have my old elec fan setup from my M44 Z3 I swapped an M52 into and was wondering if this will be a plug and play deal before I dig it out of the attic into a 91 318 vert.

May not be 100% plug n play but it is pretty easy. I don't know the specifics but a good friend of mine ran that setup.

2 things that are not exactly "plug & play":
      1) You'll have to run some new wire from the car's aux fan connector (near the driver's side headlight) to the new fan's connector. This assumes you're eliminating your aux fan.
      2) You should use the colder (81/88 IIRC) early E36 fan switch (on the right side of the radiator)

Yea gonna ditch the aux since the Zed one is a 2 stage and I am gonna use the M44 switch since it operates at lower temps. Was hoping the plugs et al would be the same since they are so close in design like connectors and such for the fan can be found on late e30's and e36's. So I was thinking I could unplug aux and plug this in but it's looking like a 15 min job vs a 5er. :)

other bonus behind using the aux fan circuit- the AC button gets repurposed as your "augment engine cooling" button. i liked that when i did this trick to mine- made more sense than having air conditioning installed on a convertible in california...

in my opinion, it's worth the extra effort to install an electric fan where the condenser/aux fan used to be- all that room between the engine and the rad makes lots of other stuff trivial to do.

the fan i used is the big one everyone likes to get from E36s/Volvos; iirc i also had to go from a 15A to 30A fuse on the aux fan circuit so have one of those ready too.

The plugs are the same its just there isn't enough wire lengths to meet up.

I figured it was a lot simpler than it was being made out to be.

Will get some real world experience when I tackle this next week and report.

Yea it didn't fit in the 91 318ic it hits the motor. Maybe things are not 100% straight on the core support but it doesn't look like its had a hard hit so I dunno.

I use one. I had to do the following...

1)extended bolts and washers stacked to move the fan motor further into the shroud.
2)Extend the fan's wire harness to reach the aux fan connection
3)Change out the temp sensor to the 81/88* sensor
4)Replace two fuses with 30a (Cant recall which ones) Could go out to car if need be.

                      M42 turbo build.
