Today, I went to pop my hood and all of a sudden the latch release gave no resistance, and the hood didn't open. Before this happened, the latch had been kinda loose. I would appreciate anyone who could help solving this problem.

Your cable probably broke. You can stick a flathead screwdriver behind the grill by the driver's side high beam (for LHD) and pop it that way.
Actually it may have snapped the plastic where it connects to the latch. Look under there and check.The first car I ever rode in was an e30
