    Silicone Intake boot?

I saw a guy makes silicone intake boots for M20s. Mine is starting to crack and will need replaced very soon and I was curious if anyone has come across a similar product for an M42? I know with the dual butterfly TB the shape may be difficult to produce but I like the idea of a nice smooth bend rather than the convoluted rubber piece on there now. I've searched around briefly but came across nothing.

    Something like this..

I actually found Samco makes one but it's for the M44 and is like $140.

I had the same question a while back. Check out the thread I made, I don't feel like copying all the posts, lol

Edit: This is what I bought. Cut a small hole in it, used a plastic vacuum 90* tee and connected the ICV hose to it. Also used some silicone gasket maker to seal it up. Works fine.

        its 3.5 to 2.5. Siliconintakes.com

I'm sure it's minimal, but was there any difference? I've read of 5-8whp on larger engines but I'm sure on our tiny engine it's slim to none.

Wouldn't the difference only really be in replacement interval?

Probably, but I'm sure a smooth bend of a silicone boot would flow better than the convoluted stock elbow, if even just a little.

Still, flow has the throttle body to deal with after that. Not saying swirl and turbulence are necessarily good things, but they can be helpful when not creating weird pressure zones and limiting air flow to one or more cylinders.

Just don't expect any gains. Of course I could be way off, throw it on a dyno and let us know.

I'm not going to that extreme. I imagine the only possibly perceivable difference would be a slight increase in throttle response.

I didn't notice any difference...only thing that made a real difference was doing the filter and exhaust at the same time.

The only thing the boot made a difference in was the sound, lol. You can hear the intake a little louder now.

not too surprised. great mod for looks and durability, but probably not going to do much while it's pulling air through an AFM.

That's about what I figured. And to be honest, I mainly wanted it because I think they look much cleaner...and I care about that, lol.

Ditto...the stock one just looks fugly, esp if you have an aftermarket filter. I've neglected the engine bay since I've had the car, so I've been cleaning it up a little. The silicone boot was the 1st thing I did after the filter. Mainly cause the OE one cracked, but I knew I wanted to change it anyway.

Friend of mine with an M42 just put one on his. Wondering if you can get a regular circle one and persuade it on with heat gun or something. Have to have a solid intake pipe after to plug the lines into.

I have one. My icv vacuum line is plugged into the throttle body and the valve cover line is venting to atmosphere. Good to go
