    Installing head

Hey everyone I'm in the middle of tackling the profile gasket job. I have everything cleaned up and the head is ready to go back on but when I try to get it to line up with the block the studs on the head hit the exhaust manifold and wants to push the head away. Any tips on getting the head on without hitting the exhaust manifold? Thanks in advance. I really want to be done soon. Pulling half the engine apart was exhausting.

If you can go under the car and disconnect the exhaust hanger at the transmission cross member, should be 10mm nuts. That should allow the exhaust to wiggle enough to allow you to wire/tie/bungee it out of the way of the head.

The alternative is of course to remove the old studs and replace with new, which is somewhat pricey, but not a bad idea.

Yeah I put new studs in... when the head was out of the car... not the smartest I know haha. Will give that a shot tomorrow. its really close so it should work.

Well, that is normally the smart time to install them, but I forgot when I did mine. While you are there pry on the transmission mounts (if yours are rubber), my last set only lasted ~5 months.

Have fun putting all of those exhaust manifold nuts on, what a pain.

Disconnecting the hanger did the trick. Thanks for the tip. Now to get the timing to line up right again.
