I looked at (potential purchase) an 88 325i w/ 130k that had some ticking/tapping noise coming the top end area after start up and idle. After about a 10 min test drive the noise was gone, eng sounded fine. lifters? exhaust leak? a rod noise wouldn't go away would it? the car apparently is no longer a daily driver (maybe driven once a wk). How concerned should I be? Overall, you can tell the 1 owner car has been well taken care of. Before I purchase it, i'm having the noise diagnosed by a tech. Any thoughts?

Many m20s sound like sewing machines even if everything is ok and things are in adjustment. There are a few that are quiet but that is rare. Just make sure your prospect is in adjustment and not about to grenade itself, and then drive it on down the road.The current fleet:
