    Updated injectors for M42

    Hello,

I've been searching the forums/threads for options for updating my M42 injectors. I know people use 700, 710, and have even seen 556 mentioned but I came across these which are advertised as a direct upgrade for the 91-94 318i/iS. (0 280 156 013)

    Any thoughts/experience?

While looking around I also found this very detailed spreadsheet with Bosch injector data.

I found (0 280 158 107) and the specs are very close, but the resistance is 12 ohm as opposed to 15.3 ohm and the distance between o rings is 60.65 as opposed to 60.5 yet the overall length is the same 77. Need a mechanical drawing to see where the 0.15 shift is.

    My Car info:

    1991 318iC

    Questions:

    1. Does the engine management accept a range of impedance values (12-16) and adjust based on the actual resistance values?

    2. Did E30 M42s have different injectors than E36 M42s during the same time frame 91-94

    3. Is the diameter standard for all Bosch injectors? Don't want fuel leaks.

    4. What's the difference between EV1, EV6, etc. Is it just a generation label? Will EV14 work without having to upgrade engine management?

    Thanks,
    Bryon

Sorry for all the questions, Just looking for some direct answers. I read through that thread prior to posting and ended up a littler more confused, but it looks as though the (0 280 150 556) is a close match in both form and function. If anyone can shed some light that would be very much appreciated.

I've run the 19 lb/hr 4 pintle yellow Mustang (IIRC they're the 0 280 150 556) injectors in my M42 for 3-4 years with no issues. Does idle smoother but can't really tell if they give more power.

The general consensus seems to be that changing to 4 pintle injectors offers only a crypto upgrade and is not worth it. Same is true of going to slightly higher flowing injectors. If I were you I would spend the money on getting a set of stockers cleaned and matched.

All of this is moot if you are upgrading the management or building the engine of course.

Thanks for the feedback. Didn't expect much in terms of power, but was looking for smoother running and possibly a few more mpg.

I won't be heavily modifying the engine but considering Mark D chip, and COP kit in addition to either having my stock injectors reconditioned and flow matched, or updating to the 556s.

May even take a chance on the latest generation 107 injectors depending on what I find after some more research.

            Thanks again.
