    CEL Code 1222 and 1262 | Stomp Test | 318is [~SOLVED~]

Can anybody help me out? My check engine light is on now.

stomp test reveals code "1262" but previously was "1222"

One day while driving to work no traffic i was driving 80+, CEL flickered on and off, then it just stood on, and I noticed it raised my idle. Car was parked for 10 hours while at work, then on my drive home my car died out while idling to a stop, i popped the clutch and started the car back up and drove home, but the idle ended up staying kind of high, and now it starts off around 600rpm but will slowly rise idle to 1krpm.

I should mention i was having no problem with idle other than an occasional hiccup every now and then, but the car would never stall nor throw a CEL.

Thanks I tried searching and I didn't get much help.

So I Believe it is my ICV. If I unplug the connector on the ICV, what should happen?

On my car when I unplug it nothing seems to change. Oddly I switched it out and the car does seem to idle better than the one i switched out, but I still unplug it and nothing changes.

When you unplug the ICV it shouldn't idle good at all. Check for vacuum leaks. Is the ICV working? Buzzing when key on? Also have you ever checked your o2 sensor.

So, I just installed a new Idle control valve, and CEL is still on, plus It runs the same whether the ICV is plugged in or not.

02 Sensor will be replaced by Friday. I doubt it is a vaccum leak, because those hoses were replaced rather recently but I will double check that asap.

          suggestions?

ICV, o2 sensor, vac leaks are the usual culprits. Could also try testing your cam position sensor. I know when mine went out it wouldn't idle. Also did you try resetting the DME?

I just replaced the 02 Sensor Today, and also replaced the ICV. I Still have the CEL 1262. Next I hope to spray...(carb cleaner? wd40? Propane?) to check for vaccume leaks. I also need to check the wires going to the sensor clip because the code says something about a ground fault. And I also see no difference with the ICV plugged or not plugged in. Lastly I will check with the Cam or Crank Position sensor. I will also be putting in a new CAT since IM due for smog in a month or so.

              DME has been reset.
I get the 1000 code, then the 1444 code but as soon as I start the car I get the 1262 code.

The has always idled, it hasn't stalled again, it just eventually creeps up to about 1k rpm's. Besides the CEL and what I feel to be increased fuel consumption, the car actually drives damn well. But then again I do feel like the car can feel more smoother/powerful.

Did you check the ohms on the sensor and check the wiring to it from the DME?

No chances yet, But I did pick up an engine harness to swap in. I'm unsure how to test the ohms on the sensor, so i will be looking up how to do so asap. But for now Im on the look out for a known good working DME.

                  Thanks!

                    Update...

Its been a while since i typed in here. But my Codes seem to be gone.
I left off wanting to swap in a known good working ECU.
I came across 2 different ECU's swapped them in and nothing changed, I still got the same 1262 Code. Time passed and still was unable to get my engine harness swapped out. Until today. Since the engine harness has been swapped out, The car idles fine, after resetting the CEL, it now stays off, and throws no codes. While the car is idling and I unplug the idle control valve the car reacts and the idle fluctuates, this did not happen before.

So in conclusion, for me,my CEL code 1262 was because of a faulty ground on the wiring for the idle control valve.

                    Thanks for everyones help!
