    M42 Maybe Sounding Strange?

So I took a video after I failed smog, because I thought maybe I wasn't hearing something right in the engine. Figured someone here with more expertise could tell me if everything sounds alright.

What oil weight are you running? I'm no pro but it sounds mostly alright to me but very ticky at idle which shouldn't really affect smog unless you're running oil so thin it's burning it, causing you to fail.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

When I took this video after failing smog, I'm not sure what it was running since I just bought it recently. I changed the oil out and put 20w50 in. The ticking is what I was mainly wondering about too.

When did you change the oil? Is the video with 20w50 in it? It sounds like you bought it, smogged it, took the video, then changed the oil in that order?

Also off topic, but the seller is legally responsible for smog. I wouldn't buy a car that wasn't smogged within 90 days of the sale. Why didn't he smog it before?

          Yes, that's the right order.

There was a smog cert attached to it, but I didn't realize til later that it was outside of the 90 days. Kind of a dope move on my part.

Personally I'd replace the spark plugs, put some premium gas in it, and drive it til your cats are nice and hot and try to test it again. How long ago did it pass?

Back in October is when it passed last time. What are the recommended plugs. Haven't changed them out on one of these yet. I'm always running premium. :-)
