    Diff/axle play

    Hey guys,

Just wondering if it is normal for there to be some rotational play in the rear wheels? Not sure if this is a result of a bad diff, the rear axles...?

    Thanks

To expand upon this - I jacked the car up and just rotated the wheels and there's a good amount of play forward and back before the axles start rotating. Also noticed a grinding noise - probably bad bearings.

    Or is this driveshaft related?

      Look up the term backlash.

Don't know what the grinding noise could be.

If it's play between the wheels and the axles, it's not backlash. I've got the same play and I'm suspecting the CVs are worn, so I ordered some new axles. I haven't installed them yet so I don't know if the play is normal or not.
