back story
so not long after i got my car(6 months ago) i had some new tires put on at discount tire and it was put up on a lift. since that day my car started to drip oil. after some looking around figured out the oil filter housing gasket was shot. so this is the first car ive owned doing all the work myself. so following a pictorial on my laptop on top of my car i did it. i didnt use any sealent or just did a bad job because i was scared to strip and it was still leaking for it, i could see it with my head in there and the car on. So did it a 2nd time and the leak slowed(it had 3 drip spots off the oil pan and now there was only 1) so the leak now has gotten to the point where i lose almost a 1/2 quart in a week. So this weekend i figured i just suck at gaskets and drained the oil and was gonna try the gasket again.
when i got the the filter housing, it was dry as a bone all the way around it. dumb founded i started to look around and couldnt finda spot where oil was leaking. (theres so much dry oil and grease in the bottom half my my engine bay.) so i jacked it up and was looking to try and see where the drip on the right side of the oil pan was coming from(passenger side).
Above the oil pan on both sides of hte motor where i believe the upper oil pan connects it has oretty wetish oil and grime that could be leaking.
my question in this general lower part of the car. what other gasket could be the issue before i go order new upper and lower gaskets(bottom is shot to shit and has 2 strip bolts i found to from previous owner).
luckily i have a 91 318i with m42 so i can disconnect the motor mounts and jack the motor up to get it out without pulling anything(so i read). is there a pictorial for this DIY, i found a 7 step guide for it, or am i just over thinking it and its not that bad. im getting tired of adding oil every week i drive my car as i have to.
thanks in advance. im starting to think my car is slowly giving me harder and harder jobs to get my skill up to snuff, and its doing a good job haha.
