    M42 Hesitation, help?

Hey guys. I have a problem with my M42 swapped E21 that I have been trying to sort out for a very long time. Backstory on the car...

I sourced the entire driveline for the swap out of a buddies 91 IS. He was planning a M52 swap, and he needed the E34 pan and pick up. I had one sitting around, so we traded. I got engine, harness, radiator, trans and driveshaft. He had no running history of the engine so I had no idea what I was getting. Upon teardown, I found water in all of the spark plug holes, 75% leakage on all of the exhaust valves, 1 cup of water in the oil pan (zero oil), and a broken ring land on number two. So I went all out and rebuilt it from the ground up. Tefcoated rod and main bearings, new .5 over skirt coated pistons, and had a valve job done. For electrics, I had the injectors rebuilt, new O2 sensor, new TPS, eBay certified AFM, and a coil on plug conversion. It's a healthy and reliable engine, taking me from Colorado to Oregon and down the 1 to Los Angeles and back home(6k miles) with no problems. I have over 10k on the swap now as it is my daily driver. Now to the prolonged issue...

Ever since I first started it and broke the engine in, it has had a weird hesitation under wide open throttle. But, it only happens below 4000rpm. Above that it pulls just fine. Below, it pulls harder at part throttle than it does at WOT. This problem is exaggerated greatly at higher elevations. I drove it up Pikes Peak over the summer and towards the summit, it wouldn't even increase rpm at WOT. This makes me think that below the 4k threshold it is going way rich at WOT. I haven't been able to hook up a wideband as of yet, I'm just curious if anyone else has had a similar issue. I should note that this problem is independent of what temp the engine is. Cold or OP temp, it still does it. Thanks for any info guys. Im glad to be a part of this forum.
