M42 Radiator: different for A/C or no A/C

    Hello all,

I´m going to be replacing the radiator soon and wanted to know if there is any difference between the A/C rad and non-A/C rad.

Realoem lists different numbers for each version, but when i check online suppliers I get different results. As in non A/C rads are usable in a A/C equipped car.

Has anyone replace theirs with a non factory unit. If so what brand?

    Hmm, I only see 1 P/N on RealOEM or BMWFans - 17111728907

      What I see:

17111728907 - US/AUS/hot climate version, core extends below expansion tank, middle priced
17111712978 - listed as a Euro version with A/C, safe to assume a US version would be fine here, most expensive, no aftermarket supplier listed, possibly an old P/N
17111712982 - Non-AC unit, core is level with bottom of expansion tank, looks very much like the M40 radiator, also least expensive

They should all fit provided you either change the position, or completely change the lower mount/receiver for the radiator. So, if I were you and I were happy with the cooling capacity you have now, I'd get the last option, otherwise, I'd get the US version (provided you are buying in North America, if not, YMMV).

        Thanks guys,

I should have mentioned that it´s a euro IS with A/C, apologies.
Had to drive out to the garage to check what is on there currently. It´s an OEM - 17111712978. It´s also a shorty as opposed to the taller version.
There are versions for A/C that are short or tall and versions for non-A/C that can be short or tall as well.
Still confused but went ahead and ordered one based on the original part number (17111712978) Hopefully it´s the right one.
