    Sandy muffler?

Alright - bought a used OEM 318is muffler off eBay and it sounds like there’s some sand or other crud inside? When I shake it tailpipe down, nothing comes out. Stumped.

Problem or no, or is there a way to get it out without cutting it open and welding shut?

Would have bought new but they are very hard to come by...

Probably just internal rust, run it until it rusts out. The baffles will often do a good job of retaining junk, but I'd be surprised if nothing came out with some real shaking.

cut it open and take out all the crap from the inside and weld it back up. probably will rattle when in the higher rpms with the trash inside of it

Lots of shaking up and down produced plenty of rusty goodness on the driveway. Seems like I got most of it out, we’ll see how it goes when I hook it up this weekend.

Your neighbors probably thought you had a Shake Weight XXL.

No joke. Literally jumping up and down holding the stupid thing sweating like mad. So sore.

Installed today and all’s good so far. Some flying crud on startup but that’s it. Better fit and sound than the aftermarket crap from the PO.

I had to do this to the rear muffler on my Volvo 245. I thought of it like one of those cheap marble maze games you'd get as a kid. The big difference is you can't see the marbles or the maze in this case. ;D
