    chain tensioner preloading

Alright, so I have an M42 chain tensioner I'd like to install. I've heard one method is to install it, start it up, rev to 3000 rpm, and pray that it expands.

I've also heard that it's possible to "preload" the tensioner by expanding it before installation. This seems like a safer route, but how do I expand it without doing any damage to it?

Actually dropped it by accident and got it to expand. So problem solved.

For future searchers. . . the method in the hyperlink works. However, I needed to move the washer reservoir in order to get enough leverage to both compress the spring and thread the cap. Just an FYI.

Oh, and no more chain noise on startup :D
