    starter agh!

ok, so I'm in the process of doing a m20 flywheel swap, and right now the process has come to a halt becasue I cannot figure out for to get the top mounting bolt for the starter undone. Would it be easier attacking it from teh top or the bottom? Is there some magic way of doing this? Any help would be appriciated.

Wait wait M20 flywheel swap? Can you explain that to me? Cuz I guess I was attempting the reverse (M42 flywheel in a getrag 260 and M20).

But to get to top nuts, I generally drop the tranny mounts and bend down the tranny. Not great for the motor mounts but itll make things TONS easier.

    Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

Well the m42 flywheel is a dual mass on, and therefor very heavy (28lbs), and by putting in a lighter flywheel (m20) it will affect the 318iS's ability to accelerate becasue there is less rotational mass on the crank. I don't know why you would want ot put a m42 flywheel in a m20 though, care to explain?

Undo the starter wiring, the rear bolt that holds it to the block, driveshaft, shifter linkage and transmission bolts, and rotate the transmission as far as it will go counterclockwise. This will bring the starter bolts down to within reach.

Mine has bolts going in from the rear of the transmission and nuts on the front side holding the starter on. Put a socket on the bolt heads from under the hood or with a long extension from underneath the car and a socket on a shorter extension on the nuts.
