I have a car trying to put back together, with a M42 engine
head should be done mid week
I have read several manuals, and all of them talk of using special tool to install cam, not just the tool to lock them in position, I have that

so do you need special tools, and any good diy reads on this,

all I have is chiltons an haynes

amyone want to pdf me a copy of the m42 engine section related to heads from the bentley manual

The tool puts equal pressure on the cam at all times when you're reinstalling it. It isn't really necessary if you're careful... plus it's mostly the M5X cams that have more of an issue with snapping.

I just tightened every bolt down a half-turn at a time.
