Use the 323i t/o bearing. It is a bit longer than the standard one. I believe you will also need the slave cylinder that is specific to it. It will work with the standard clutch and pressure plate.

Dont quote me on any of that. I'm pretty sure of all of it, but searching a bit more and cross referencing part numbers would save you the possible trouble of ordering the wrong stuff/putting it together wrong.

Wish I hadnt sold mine so cheap.. I let it go for ~$1100 when the economy was good. Others were selling for $2k+... Wish I still -had it, I'd love to have one behind my S52. I didnt expect the engine to be as rev-happy as it is. The close ratio would have been nice. I've got the right bell housing adapter at work somewhere too..

Ok I'll order the 323 one. I have the slave with the trans. How do you think this will go with a 3.73 LSD?

Not that well, would be better with 3.25 or 3.07. It's a 1:1 ratio. the 3.73 was for an overdrive gearbox.

Damn. I just got the S3.73 too, replaced a 4.10 with it. I haven't seen any 3.25 and the only 3.07 I have seen was in a 635csi. Will it act like my old 4.10 or lug around?
I just don't get the final drives.

dogleg with 3.25 = standard tranny with 4.10

so dogleg with 3.73 will be wicked short! expect to be reving well over 4k at freeway speeds.

I had a 4.10 behind this motor before. The power was incredible but the gas and high revs killed it for me. Damn I am at the point where my motor is coming back out this weekend. Do I put the trans on and fine another diff. Thats hard over here.

I personally wouldnt be afraid of 220-230 hp. But that is me, I shift like grandma. There would be a risk there. I'd say that 200 hp would be plenty safe. Standard the M20B23 did ~150 hp and 150 lb/ft. I think you'd be safe running it up 25% anyway. I know that Pete McHenry had one behind a solid built 2.9l M50 and he blew it up on a road trip. No telling how he was driving, but he lost 5th. That would mean that he loaded it up pretty good, but I'm not sure what exactly it takes to blow one up.

That said, I wouldnt put it behind a DOHC motor, I think they have too much torque. I do think it would be nice behind a 2.0l M42 though..

I've had both of them side by side and the case is much smaller on the 245 M20 version. Spacing between the main- and countershafts is also a lot smaller, so the gears are a lot smaller. That's where the power handling issue comes into play.

Regarding the smallcase dogleg behind the 2.9L M50, just wanted to note that we had the car at Rd Atl for a 3-day event the weekend before and it had seen some other track duty in recent months. The failure happened on the highway most likely as a result of the beating it received at the track. Motor was a 290hp/270tq, 7700rpm setup -- so that little gearbox was probably at its limit in a track environment, even with light shifting (Pete was pretty silky with a manual gearbox).

Smallcase dogleg seems like it'd be great for a punched out or stroked M42. I've been thinking about this considerably in the past few months. I've got a typ168 s3.91 in great shape but am hesitant to use it with an overdrive 'box. Would be a a PITA on the highway but I think the overall benefit would be worth it. Decisions.

PS - Ryan, was stoked to hear your 3.2 euro car still came in under 2500; Awesome!
