Have to rebuild my transmission - Upgrades?

I have an '84 325e with a stock Getrag 260. I need to have the tranny rebuilt. Is there any upgrades I can do while I'm in there? I mean, can I buy a better transmission instead of rebuilding mine? I am toying with the idea of converting to a 327i in the near future, if that matters... thanks for the help.

The stock transmission is fine as-is for turo guys running over 400 whp, you'll be fine with it as-is. Clean it up and fix any leaking seals, freshen the fluids, and you should be fine. It would't be a bad time to change the clutch and throwout bearing if they are worn. Sach 618 Pressure Plate and a Spec clutch will hold all the power you could want to make if you turbo the 327i.
