    Which Fluids/Oils and How Much?

    Hey folks,

New E30 owner. I did a search but didn't find the answers to my questions.

    1. Which transmission fluid is most recommended? I see a mish-mash of redline 75W90 and MTL. What do you recommend and why? How much will I need?

    2. Differential Fluid/Oil - What do you folks recommend and much do I need. Did a search on this and couldn't find an answer to this.

    Thanks!

I had almost the exact same question. See my thread: http://r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=140991

Did you use Redline MTL in your differential as well?

Found out as per owner's manual:

Transmission (manual): 1.3quarts of GL-4 based fluid. (Redline MTL)
        Differential: 1.7quarts of GL-5 based fluid. (75W90)

Has anyone tried Swepco 201? I'm thinking of giving it a shot - my trans has 227,000 miles and it feels great - I'd like to try and keep it that way. Swepco seems to be about the same price as Redline. Wanted some feedback before I threw down $50 / gallon.

I just changed mine. I put Redline MTL in the tranny and 75/90 syn in the diff. Seems to work like it should.

Just did this the other weekend
              2 quarts MTL
2 quarts Redline 75w90 Gear Oil.
You will have some fluid left over.
Also had to pick up a huge allen hex key from sears. I think it was 17mm don't remember but it was the biggest one in the store.

What kind of MTL? Redline 75W80, but I seem to come across posts of 75W80 being used in the trans as well?

Also, I have a 325 with an LSD, the Redline website says their 75W90 gear oil already has the LSD additives in it, anyone have any issues with running it in their LSD?

stick with redline for your diff oil too. I can never remember what weight it is. Should be on redlines site.
