    AutoTrans Issues

Sup guys...Yesterday was a very tragic day for me. Both of my vehicles had transmission issues in the same day.

Anyway. I have a 85 318i Auto, according to the PO the tranny was rebuilt recently by the local BMW parts place. German Autoworks(i think). According to the id plate its a 4 HP 22. I was driving and I though i ran over something because i heard a noise like something hit the bottom of the car. I thought nothing of it at the time. I get to my destination and park it. I get back in to leave and the shift moves freely. So i get out my Haynes manual, and look for the linkage section. I see pictures and look for those under the car. I locate that part and its all still connected. The manual says its up front but its about midway. I look right under the car where the manual lever is and theres a rod that connects to the rear(thats shown in the haynes) and it has an L shape with the shorter part facing the front of the car. It was out of the hole in the manual lever. I was able to get it back in but I dont know what holds it or how its supposed to stay in. I looked at the part that passes through the manual lever and its round with no holes for a pin to pass through it. Anybody know what holds it on?

Here are a few pics..pardon the size i guess bigger is better...

Heres a pic of the rod through the manual lever...

Heres a pic of the end that the Haynes manual shows

Heres another of the rod its a little better, its kinda upside down the short end points toward the driverside and the long end goes toward the rear..

Heres one of the end of the rod, as you can see its pretty much round and has no holes...
