When buying a Transmission...

So i'm new to transmissions, and i am wondering when you buy a manual transmission do you get just the half that drops when doing a clutch or do you get the entire thing including the half that the pressure plate goes on??


Im Looking to buy a tranny, but i need the half with the flywheel as well..

So basically what im asking is, is it common for both sides to get sold as a transmission or would you get charged more??

are you asking if you get a motor with the trans? if so, i would highly suggest you not try to install the transmission yourself. ;)

so the half that the pressure plate goes on is the motor?? i hope not..

I thought transmissions were narrow at one end which went into the motor and fat at the other end that the shifter sits above

Hmm, your question hints that you are doing a conversion from an automatic transmission to a manual transmission.

The flywheel, clutch and pressure plate aren't typically sold with the transmission. The arm/fork that pushes against the throwout bearing should be included with a boneyard transmission, although it wouldn't be included with a factory replacement transmission.

You'll want to buy a new clutch kit (clutch disk, pressure plate and throwout bearing), a new pilot bearing, and a used or resurfaced flywheel. You should always use new bolts to attach the pressure plate to the flywheel, and are supposed to use new bolts to attach the flywheel to the crank flange.

Again: pilot bearing. There isn't one on an automatic transmission car. You'll need to install one for a conversion.

Thanx for advice but come to find out, I only need to replace my throwout bearing and my pilot bearing along with the rest of the clutch now everything will work fine.. Thanx for the help everyone
