My car is stuck in 2nd gear

Today i was driving pretty hard and i got into second and i tried to shift into third and it wouldnt work. I tried to shift down in to 1st and it didnt work. Whats wrong with my car? I can still move the shifter like im in nuetral but im stuck in 2nd!

That sounds like a failure in the shifter to me. get the car up in the air and take a look.
