i have a 86 with a really sloppy shifter. soo far i bought
    13, 14, 15, 16, 10, 11, 8.

i was wonder how you guys get to the dowel pin to get the gear shift rod joint out. is dropping the trannsmission needed and taking off the plate on top?

This job is easier if you remove the trasnmission cross member and allow the rear of the transmission to sag down. And disconnecting the drive shaft from the transmission output shaft will give even more room to work, but you can do the shifter w/o futzing with the drive shaft.

To get the dowel pin out you have to work the spring lock ring out of its recess in the rod end and back to expose the dowel pin. Then use a small bolt about an inch long to push the the pin down and out of the rod end.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Funny, the pin just fell out on me after I slid the "cover" up , but then when I installed the new shift coupler I had to hammer it in. Go figure.

Also, get another #7. They're a few bucks and are a big rubber piece--tend to wear out, and not that hard to replace.

The #1 part 25111208580 (two of them) should also be replaced. The bushings in them always deteriorate.
