    1990 318i E30 Auto to Manual question

    Hi Guys

Very new to the forum, so please play nice :)

have had an automatic 1990 M40 318i for about 3 years now, and im thinking about doing the manual tranny swap.

Can anyone offer any advice.. a few people have anecdotally told me its a fairly straight forward change, but would love to hear different if its the case.

i have spoken to a few parts places here in Sydney, and seem to be getting quoted about $1000 for a kit and another $300 for a clutch kit. Does this seem about reasonable??

Also, and most importantly, am i limited to finding an Manual Box from another 318i M40 car??? would love to know what else i could use, as it might be cheap to find one with some body damage and salvage. For example, can i use something from a 325 or an older M10 318i???

Really appreciate any thoughts or advice guys

    Cheers

a M10 box will fit, in both cases M40 & M10 the prop will have to be change to a longer one
