Is my 4.10 LSD damaged too much?

I just got this 4.10 LSD shipped to me last week and finally got to my office to pick it up today. Opened the box up and was very happy with the condition except for this which had torn a noticeable hole in the box, thanks UPS....





Before I go and install it, can anyone tell me what this part is and is it integral to the operation of the LSD? I really don't want to have to put a new cover on it...

Edit* yes I guess I could use my current 3.73 open dif cover...

hate being a nooob but found my answer. It's the breathing pipe and I'm just going to swap it with my old dif cover.
