Rear hubs

I am rebuilding the back end of my e30 and noticed that my hubs are different on the left and right sides. The one on the right is longer by ~1/2" compared to the one on the left. Also, the brake rotor is different to accommodate the different length hubs.

I am assuming that this is unusual. Could I have an IX hub on the right? To correct the problem, would I only have to change the hub and the brake rotor or is there more?

That is definitely not right. I don't know which side is correct, but one needs to be changed. My suspicion would be that one of the rear trailing arms was replaced with the wrong assembly. I don't know what car you have, but if it has ABS check to see if both sides have an ABS sensor. If one doesn't, that will be the wrong trailing arm & hub. In a like manner if this is a non-ABS car the side with the sensor mounting point will be wrong.

The car has ABS both sides - everything seems to work as it should but one wheel is spaced 1/2" out towards the fender. After thinking about it for a while I have convinced myself that at some point in the cars history, the passengers side was replaced with IX parts. I will have to find a hub some time and fix it. I think all I need is the hub and the brake rotor.

you probably have different bearings... one trailing arm is 84-85 and other is 86+

What year is your car?

The car is an 88. I just replaced the bearings which is when I got a better look at everything. As far as I can tell t he trailing arms are the same.

As a result of this discovery - I am now looking for a replacement for my IX hub.
