I have a 1985 260 manual trasmission and it currently has a shifter with the steel formed plate style shifter ,,,(which is damaged) ...the question is can I use the aluminum style shifter assembly instead?

If the transmission is the original, it won't have the mounting tabs for the aluminum shift console.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
