I picked up a 260 transmission from the pick and pull from a 1985 325e .It has a steel pan style shifter assembly.

Should the shifter rod that goes to the trasmission be straight or is it bent in any way.

Put it in, and see how the shifter angle looks. But I believe it is bent

Should be straight

But may have been bent by someone to clear the vibration dampener.
