    Can't pull out input bearing!

My input bearing has gone to crap. I have my first mini competition in a week and have little money.

I can't seem to separate the two parts of the transmission case. It looks like it only needs an inch more and the input shaft will be free from the torn up bearing. Could any of you guys recommend a way for me to separate the two?

Also, I can't find a store online that sells input shaft bearings?

How are trying to separate the case?

Do you have *all* of the bolts and parts removed that the Bentley manual lists? You can't skip any of them, including the reverse switch.

Do not try to pry the case apart. You'll damage the sealing surfaces and the case will always leak. You must push on the input shaft end, and pull only on the area that the input guide sleeve mounts to. I use lumber strapped to the case, supporting the area close to the bearing outer ring, and press on the input shaft with a floor mounted press.

Exactly, I've come close to wanting to pry it but I havn't. Yes I made sure I had all the bolts removed as described in my Bentley.

Here's my floor mounted press, but I don't understand where and how I would strap lumber to the case? Could you please explain further?

Set up the transmission with the input shaft up, held a few inches off the ground with the lumber supporting the transmission bell where the slave cylinder and pivot pin mount.

If you are willing to scrap a input shaft sleeve, you can notch it for a two jaw puller and use that to press out the input shaft.

But again, be certain to remove all of the bolts and pieces specified in Bentley before trying to separate the case.

Of course, I didn't read the Bentley fully and missed that weird thing with a spring in it. I kept having to play phone tag with the dealer to try and get the input bearing. They said they could have it in a week when I only had three days until my drift event.

So I got another tranmission from the yard. It came from a 86 eta and of course they're differences between the 86 and 87. Different shifter and driveshaft. I went back for the shifter, couldn't find it so I had to make a "custom" front mount that uses one of the case bolts. Works pretty good. Just have to "find" third and fourth. Then I found out about the driveshaft. Went back to the yard and couldn't split the two parts. So I had to pay for two of them.

Now it's leaking onto the cat's heat sheild.

My dad said he'll buy me a new input bearing, but he's overseas. Anyone know where I can get one online??
