    stripped torx on trans cover

    sup guy's
just wonder if someone could give me some advice on how to get stripped torx bolts out of my trans cover.I have a 84 325e and when I bought it it had a cracked pan so I got a new pan and did the research and when I got under the car to take the trans cover off I noticed the torx nuts were stripped by the previous owner.the 2 small ones on the front and Im gonna assume the big one on the top.should I just cut the off with the dremel? the trans cover dosent hold any fluid, does it need all its bolts? any advice would be killer,I really dont want to pay a shop to do it..

    thanks,

this happened to me on a previous car. there's no liquid in the cover i cut the two small bolts and one of the big ones from the head then you can pry it open and cut the bolt in between the cover and the transcase then it should just swing open.

will it ruin my trans if I roll without the cover?

How badly are they stripped? E-Torx are conical, so one size larger or smaller might still drive the screw.

Otherwise just use a Irwin Bolt-out (or the Craftsman version of the same) on the screw head, slot them, or grind off the head. You can drive without the "bridge" until you buy new, if you are gentle. It's possible to crack the transmission housing.
