    clutch problem

so i swapped the m42 on my car for another used one...the engine came with the clutch but it was fried...so we swapped the clutch from mine. we couldnt get a hold of a clutch alignment tool, so we ended up installing the clutch without aligning it properly. now that i drive the car..its hard to get into 1st gear, and even harder to go into reverse...and at times the clutch feels fine, and then all of the sudden it starts feeling as if its grinding agaisnt something and vibrates, it still shifts good though....its just hard to shift into first after the car is going i can still feel the clutch vibrate and shifts ok. could not aligning it be the problem?
what are the consequences of not aligning the clutch????
damn i think it will be time for a clutch job :(

    thanks in advance....

The purpose of the clutch alignment tool is to align the splines in the clutch disk with the pilot bearing so you can mate the engine and transmission. Since you were able to re-install the transmission, the alignment of the clutch disk was good enough and not using the tool has nothing to do with the current problems.

It sounds to me like the clutch isn't fully releasing. That can be from a problem with the clutch hydraulics or it can be a sign of a worn out clutch. I'd suggest bleeding the clutch and if that doesn't help replace the clutch master and slave cylinders. If the problem then persists, you'll need to replace the clutch.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

thanks ill look into that...the clutch has half of its life left, and the clutch master cylinder and and slave cylinder were working perfect before the swap...amd the clutch does it oncein a while, although i am going to replace the clutch in a month or two i think it could be the clutch, ill bleed the clutch and see if that helps

      thanks

Did you replace the pilot bushing?
