1985 325e trans issue

i have a bone stock 325e with a 5sp manual trans.

the trans does not engage 3rd or 4th, however it feels like it goes into gear.

there is a ton of slop in the shifter, i have purchased a bav auto shifter rebuild (waiting on backorder parts) should this fix the problem?

or do i need a new trans, and if so, where is a good place to find one for cheap?

is an 325i trans compatable with an E model?

if the "I" trans has the holes for the crank position sensors then it will fit, they are the same getrag 260. the later ones had the bungs but they were not drilled out. I'm not there so I cant answer your other question, sorry.
