    Auto to Manual Conversion

    So i have this 89 e30 thats auto, (unfortunately) and i wanna bring it to life by doing a manual trans swap. Who Knows the cheapest place to get it done in so cal? Around SD preferably.

      I would make sure you get a quote in writing before taking it in. Unless the shop is familiar with e30s, I would provide a Bentley and a print out of a writeup with lots of pictures, as well as ALL the little parts you need.

      When I called around to see what shops would charge to do the swap, all but one flat out refused. The one that didn't quoted me $4,000 labor.

      Parts (s&h inc) in total cost me $1800, and that's with a new clutch, new seals put into the transmission before it was shipped, and a driveshaft/ new csb.

      I did it myself, and saved $4k. It's really not very hard, just time consuming.

      Why do you want someone else to do it?

        Yeah Cause i already dont have space in the garage to do work , also im gonna be busy with school so i don't really have time.

          There's at least one person on the forum that is relatively happy with his e30 as an auto (a hint: 4.27 rear end swap).

          If there's nothing wrong with yours, and you won't have time to work on it yourself, why not wait a while?

          I don't think you're going to find a shop that will do it for a reasonable fee from a student's perspective.

            Yeah i feel you bro, thanks for the head up. Ill just move on the modlist and save that for last.
