grinds grinds grinds!

I have a grinding problem on my 318is.

When I'm at a stop, 50% of the time I put it into first I get a grind into the gear.

I just changed my tranny fluid today with Redline MTL fluid.

Weird thing is, before with my old tranny fluid (dont know what brand, just got the car), the car rarely grinned into first. Probably only 5-10% of the time.

After flushing the fluid with redline, it got worse.

Trying to not grind my gears half the time.... I put it into third first, then into first and its butter smooth.

Oh yeah, when it does go into first without grinding, it also goes in butter smooth.

This is all happens when my car is at a stop or under 5?mphs.. so I have no grinding issues at speed.

tranny does not have any other problems besides this, its butter smooth in every other gear.

Tranny has about 100-110k on it.

whats wrong? air in the clutch line? wrong fluid?

hmm that would cause it to grind all the time. Plus i can downshift into first and it goes in smooth..

Bad syncro in the transmission or a clutch that isn't fully disengaging.

maybe a clutch bleed?

That is worth a try, but I'll guess that won't help. My guess is a worn out clutch or a bad clutch master cylinder.

clutch is fairly new, changed around February this year.

Clutch master shows no signs of leaking but Ill double check.

Frequently you won't see a leak in a bad master cylinder, it just won't develop full pressure.

Wouldn't a faulty master cylinder always be faulty? that means that would be consistent with my grinding?

I noticed that it grinding happens when I clutch in and quickly select first. but if I clutch in and wait a second, then shift....no grind.

I tried bleeding my clutch yesterday and NO fluid came out of the bleed nipple on the slave....im stumped. Theres fluid in the brake master reservoir too.

I bled for a good 15 mins to see if fluid would come out...no fluid at all..

any ideas? bad clutch master? bad slave?

No fluid from the bleed nipple probably means that the passage in the slave cylinder is plugged up.

yeah thats what i was thinking...i guess i need to replace my slave..
