Got my transmission out for a clutch replacement- going to change the fluid and seals.. I cannot get this drain plug out. Considering draining as much as I can out the fill plug on the side (or out the output seal once I remove it) and just refilling it. Any real reason not to? I realize I won't get to see whatever shavings are or are not present at the drain-and that I may redistribute whatever shavings may be there if I roll this thing around to drain the old fluid. What to do? I'm game to extract the plug and replace but I've already had the car off the road a week-it's my DD and I'm getting mad impatient.
What to do- stuck drain plug

the drain plug is a external hex but it's only about an eighth of an inch you can get a 17mm wrench onto-so it's seized and becoming more and more stripped as there's barely anything for a wrench to grip-Comment

dude, just get a 17mm 6 point socket and a breaker bar and go to work.
And if the socket doesnt grip it then i dont know what else to tell you :SComment

Vice grips. Clamp them down as hard as you can.

time for a m50,ls1,sr20, 2jz,1jz,VQ,VH,sr20ve,4AGE swap...something along those lines...
but on the serious note,
get a 17mm socket, vice grips are good but If its seized and about to strip I dont think youll get good enough grip with the vice. Id try the socket first!Comment

I have no doubt that I can get this plug out- not necessarily without destroying it. That's why I thought of leaving it in place. As of now I am getting hands on new plugs tomorrow and will proceed to get the fucker out. Engine swap averted for now.Comment
