    super loud whining????

I have a 84e and the rear end is whinig really loud,It used to do it now and then for a few seconds but now its pretty much constant, even when Im stopped. Its so loud I can hear it outside of the car when idling.Im assuming its coming from my diff but not sure,I dont know much about them.Should I just put new oil in it or should I try to find a new one? It's extremely annoying..Thanks for the help!!

Yes, most likely your diff. It's common. No it's not going to blow up.
    What's your question exactly though?

        lol, you're fine.
it's going to sound the same for 200k miles till it blows up, or 50 miles till it blows up with that whine.

My diff blew up pulling away from a stop sign on a slight incline. Someone else had one go while on the freeway I think. They they said the experience was "interesting" as the rear wheels lock up.

are you saying you can hear it from outside the car when its just idling?
it could be ur fuel pump.

my car has been whining lately too (pretty sure its the diff in my case) its usually just after long drives. I'm hoping some redline will ease its pain :???:

edit: i just saw you said it even does it when ur stopped, I bet its ur fuel pump. ur differential doesn't move when ur stopped so it couldn't whine...

Surprised nobody said wheel bearings. Either way neither of the said things would be an issue at idle...

yeah, its just as loud when in neutral. The reason I thought it was the diff is cause its coming from the back and ive read alot about it whining.its suprisingly loud in the cab.

In neutral when moving or just stopped? If still there when moving in neutral I'm thinking rear wheel bearings more than diff. You can put it up on jackstands, pull the axles, put it in gear and see if the noise is there. If it is there then prolly the diff, if not there then prolly wheel bearings.

He said while stopped. Sure sounds like a fuel pump to me. Could be the internal pump is going or dead, and the external is busting it's ass to work.
