Hey, ive got an 84 318i. im wondering what dif i have in it, i would check, but theyres so much sludge and grease on it. thanks

Clean off the tag and you'll know for certain. Otherwise, plug in the last 7 of the VIN on realoem.com and see what differential it should have.

is there a variety? or what normally comes in the 84 318i?

mine is a open 3.91. i have a 1984 381i

since its open, is it possible to get it welded?

If the car was built before November of '83 it will have a 3.64, if built November '83 or later, 3.91. Limited-slip was an option on both, spin the output shafts to find out.
