You were not supposed to cut the head off if you were gonna use those extractors. See the image on the side of the plastic case in your picture above? Go get a 3/8" cobalt drill bit and like a #4 screw extractor to take out the remaining shaft of the bolt if you cannot place vice-grips on it and unscrew it manually.

EDIT, oh I misread and thought you posted above that you cut the head off. Just go back to that. Just so you know, I once removed a stripped upper trans bolt on a 24v engine with a loose metal hacksaw blade...

I haven't cut the head off yet, if I had then my problem would be solved. But yes, if I can get to it to cut it off, I'll use a screw extractor for the remaining stud.

All right, I'm pretty close to getting this transmission out. I got the top torx head cut off and now there is only about half of its flange left. I'm also having trouble getting the 17mm bolt on the left out. I can turn it with my fingers and it doesn't look or feel stripped, but for some reason it won't back out and I can't get enough grip on it to turn and pull at the same time.

Is there some sort of socket that grabs a bolt head, sort of like a spark plug socket?

I tried shaking the transmission very hard in all directions hoping that the remaining flange on the top torx would snap but no dice. Maybe the 17mm is preventing that from happening.

Any thoughts, or suggestions? Aside from these two bolts I have 9 removed, so together that should make 11 which I think are all of them

            Thoughts?

You should have not left any flange, you should have cut it flush with the bellhousing. Now you can either use progressively larger drill bits and drill it out, or dremel it down until it is just the shank of the bolt. Then pull trans off.

              What about the 17mm?

get a long screwdriver, or a 1" putty knife/scraper and put it between the head and the bellhousing and use leverage to put pressure on the backside while you try to back out the bolt.

Ah don't think a putty knife will fit that way, but if I bend its tip at a right angle that would probably work. thanks!

This is the time when you "engineer" a tool to suit your needs out of random shit in the garage, but you get the general idea.

True.. yeah the problem is that I live in a one bedroom apt and don't have too many extra tools laying around.. but luckily I work in an EE and ME lab so I have limited access borrow some tools

I fully ground off the flange of the torx bolt and then when dropping the transmission it just pulled off and left the stud there. Once the trans was fully out, the stud simply hand twisted out. Sorry for the late response. You probably already got it.
What does the 17mm bolt go into? starter? all mine were torx bolts.

Yep just got it a few hours ago the 17mm was the biggest problem, ended up having to violently shake the tranny left and right while using the impact to "loosen" the 17mm (M10X75) with the tranny at full tilt.

When I first got the bottom to pull away a ton of oil came out of the bellhousing. Guessing it's my rear main seal, but it was getting too dark out to investigate.

Time to buy some degreaser... thanks for the tips everybody!

HAHA Thats exactly what my bellhousing looked like. And when I set my old engine on the driveway it tilted just enough for oil to come gushing out the rear seal. I know I wasn't burning oil that bad.
