Metal Shavings noise when I press on the clutch?

I'm unsure what it is. Clutch works fine and isn't slipping, but I'm concern about it. When I set my feet on the clutch pedal there's a lot of vibration and when compressed sounds like metal shaving noise.

    Is it the pressure plate?

What would I need to replace and why would it cause this to happen?

History: Bought the car with 174k mi. It's about 225k now and never had any clutch work done. Is this normal wear and tear?

Someone give me some directions :)

Anyone have any inputs at all?

Could it be lack of clutch fluid?

What's the throw out bearing and is it safe to drive it for a little bit?

Definitely the throw out bearing has gone bad, and surprised that it has lasted this long if it truly has never been replaced. You are taking a risk if you continue driving like this, because it will eventually come apart. There have been occurrences of the throw out bearing 'exploding' when it goes bad and the ball bearings start bouncing around the bellhousing causing damage to that area.

Honestly, don't risk it-go ahead and pull the transmisison and replace everything-clutch disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, pivot pin, release fork and throw out bearing-and the rear main seal if it is leaking. The car will feel much better with a new clutch and other components.

How much would it cost for the parts to do all that and what about labor?

Parts cost will be approximately $300 for OE parts, give or take. Labor normally gets billed at around 6 to 8 hours by most shops and dealers, so anywhere from $700-1000 for the total job. Then again, you can do it yourself with four jackstands and some basic tools. It's really not that hard of a job, just takes some time.
