    Is 75w-90 fine in a getrag 260?

My trans didn't have a label on it, so found online that it's either atf or gear oil, so i drained my fluid and it was nothing like ATF, so i tossed some mobil 1 synthetic gear oil, 75w-90? I talked to a guy at at shop here he said anything but somekinda bmw fluid is gonna blow every bearing out?

    what say you?

Someone confirm this. If the synchros are made out of brass you want to avoid using any API GL-5 gear oil. The more "advanced" formula of GL-5 vs GL-4 will destroy the brass synchros.

I ran into this problem with my Nissan when I accidentally filled it with the same Mobil 1 75w-90 (GL-5). I didnt run it bc I looked into it more and realized I needed GL-4.

GL-4 75w-90 gear oil is sorta hard to come by but all you need to Redline MT-90 which is exactly that. Because of the MT-90, its like shifting through butter.

Then again, the 260 might be a bit more "advanced" than my nissan tranny.

    edit:

GL-4 is a must. Redline MT-90 is the way to go it seems. The Mobil 1 will destroy the tranny components.

A Getrag 260 wants ATF or Redline MTL.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Whoa guys, run of the mill 75w90 is FINE in a 260 transmission, unless it has an ATF label.

Don't waste money on $30 in fluid. Don't want to listen to me? Fine.
