That is a piece of 2x4 available at your local hardware store.

that's you auto-transmission breather, it should have a plastic cap over it.

I didn't have a clue as to what it looked like underneath.
I was wanting to replace some of the trans gaskets anyway... as i stood it on end, some of the internal fluid leaked out and i just assumed that some of the gaskets and seals might leak once it's all back together.
