High lock diffs

cool. lets find the BMW OEM part number for these then, ill order some and sacrifice one to get cut apart/analyzed vs one stock unit

I think they sell 2 clutch types. I ordered the motorsport types. I put stock (new) clutches next to the bimmerworld clutches and they looked very diff. The Bimmer world ones were grittier and darker in color.

Think you need to verify the pn if a "Motorsports" clutch even exists in bmw catalog.
If it exists and is oem bmw and bimmerworld can buy it, you can directly order from bmw also.

Special "coating" eh??

If you call zf, you should be able to get the inside scoop also.

Hi Yoshi,

The Motorsport version has a coating that is different than the stock OEM disks. It is a much better disk.

Well, I finally drove the car to work today after getting this new diff with 4 clutches installed.

Nice to have new levels of traction, new e90 vert for some dumb reason wanted a go at the first available light ...took her through first two gears, little bit of wheel spin and off it goes :)

Powering out through a corner needs more attention now, SIDE WAYS easy on street tires where before it would just light up one side. Can't wait to see how its going to work this weekend on R tires :)

I messed around a bit with a kaaz 2 way for an S14 but it wasn't adjustable in any way. This was pre them redoing the design so it didn't chatter so much on tight turns. I've never seen a kaaz for an E30/E36 in person before.

There you have it. The clutch discs that Bimmerworld sells are nothing more than the same OEM discs that you can find through Tischer, Germain, or The BMW Part Store for half the price.






yosh; have you ever torn down a KAAZ? My friend setup the Tomei in my old Ae86, otherwise I would have experience in KAAZ setup, I want to play with change of locking style via plate swap; I'm trying to get my hands on some aftermarket japanese e30/36 188mm LSD units to see if any internals are compatible.

link? That would make me angry as IIRC pelican sells replacements for $45 and not Bimmer world's $75.

why are you running such a heavy weight? i thought the recommended weight was 75w90?

Heavier oil in a torsen can yield a little higher "TBR" (in theory). Once it heats up it's plenty thin. It still pours easily when it's 20F out, so I'm not worried.

Yep, I picked up the stockers for $45 each through local dealer with bmwcca discount.
