    Dogleg internals interchangable?

    Hi all,

    Does the internals of an Euro S14/M30 (G265) dogleg box fits on an M20B25 stock box, Getrag 260? Or to put another scenario, can the bellhousing of a G265 dogleg be adapted with the bellhousing of a G260 in order to fit on a M20B25? Anyone has done it?

    I have seen pics on S14.net and the G265 seems to have a detachable bellhousing, the G260 does not.

    Also I have heard that the G265 has brass synchros and the G260 molybendium synchros, hence it is more robust/reliable. Is this BS? Last time I check a stock S14 delivers more horses than a M20B25.

    I have seen contradictory info on the web and forgive me if I am starting an old disccusion, I would appreciate any response.

      You can get the bellhousing from a certain year (82 or 83 iirc) us spec, 528e and use it on a dogleg 265 to fit it to an m20 motor. That specific year 528e came with a 265us tranny on the eta motor.

        Thx Tod, this sounds great. I'll check more on realoem. I was not aware that the G265 was brought stateside on an E28! So that 528e had the dogleg shift pattern?

          No, it had the US spec o/d getrag 265 that the us market M3's all came with.

          But, if you get a euro dogleg 265 from a euro m3, and the belhousing from that US spec e28 528e (whatever year it was), you can swp the bellhousing onto the 265 and it will mount right up to an m20.

            Or source an M20 dogleg they were sold in EU as well. Expensive to say the least.

              ^ Yeah that would be the ideal scenario. I live in Costa Rica, Central America, a friend of mine has a M20 dogleg on his 325i, off course he does not sells it. Another guy has one for sale but way too expensive.

              Then I found another friend who has a S14 dogleg and that is the possibility I am studying now.

              I thought US E30 M3's came with a G260, same box as the 325i (with different bellhousing to fit on the S14) and with a LSD 4.10 to compensate for the "longer" box.

              The info of the bellhousing of the E28 is new to me, thx!

                The 528/E28 with the multi piece gear box was a one year only set up but E28's got M20's.

                I have a close ration dog leg for an S14 as well but I also don't want to sell it and if IO do it will not be a 200 buck transmission.

                US spec E30 M3's got getrag 265 that had an OverDrive transmission not a close ratio.

                  I would use the 265 if you can. The G245 dogleg trans only came on the 323i (which IIRC still came with a small case 168mm diff) and does not hold up to substantial power levels the way the G265/5 (which was used in M535s as well as the less powerful M3) does.

                    what do these cost used?.....ballpark?
