Are all transmissions the same for e30's?

I think my synchronizers are going bad on my '85 325e. If I need to get a new transmission, are all e30 transmissions the same? Also, I doubt there are any used transmissions that would be worth installing. So, are there any good companies to get transmissions from that are either in good condition or rebuilt. What do you guys suggest that I do? It sucks not being able to go into 4th gear!!!

You can use any tranny from a 325 or 325e from 1984 to 87. 325i tranny won't work due to lack of holes for the flywheel sensors.

Common sense- It's the new 'gifted'

You are completely right. I actually had a problem with the sensors a few months ago and totally forgot that it was only an early e30 problem. Well that solves that question.

What about a place to find transmissions. I've been looking all over the internet, and I can't find anything of use. What would a good transmission be worth?

        theeurodepot.com ~ ~$395.00

There are other places, maybe you haven't checked that ^ yet.

Getrag260's are most of the time bullet proof. You could find a used one for around $200 most likely.

Somehow I never found this site. Thanks for the heads up.

Overall, would a used transmission be worth it, seeing how it could possibly go bad at any time too? Should I get a rebuilt one? I'm a poor college student by the way.

Find a used one with around 100,000 miles on it, and it should be good for ya. Make sure it was used nicely though.
