    Alright R3V, I have a driveshaft situation.

I was changing out my CSB on my swap car today and I ran into a problem.

    I have a drive shaft from a 90 manual 325i.
My old CSB was from the auto DS that came in my car.
I went to replace it with a CSB for an 87 325i manual.

The inside diameter of the CSB is too small for the 90 driveshaft. Do they come in different sizes? Do i just need to order another 87 auto CSB?

My car is an 87 325i.

The part number for the CSB for 325i/is cars changed between 8/87 and 9/87. For the drive shaft you have you need a CSB for a 9/97 or later manual transmission 325i
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Ahh I see. Ya my car is a late 87. I will check the build date when I get home. Thanks!

I don't know if this will help you but I've been in this exact situation twice. I noticed that both times I have replaced a worn csb, it has been due to torn rubber instead of a worn out bearing. So when I ran into the problem of having the wrong csb, i realized that the mounting bracket and everything is the same. So I presses thw old bearing out of the old csb and pressed the new bearing out of the new csb. The put the old bearing in the new csb housing. Worked like a charm each time I tried it.

        Hope that helps.

That is sort of that I ended up doing. The bracket that is supposed to be correct for my car and the bracket for the 90 were both too narrow. So I took the bearing from the new 90 CSB which fit the driveshaft and put it into the original bracket that came with my car. Sort of a half assed ghetto but that was the only way I was going to get my car to the exhaust shop the next morning.

Not all the CSB brackets are the same though. Some of them are bigger on one side for early models.
