    Problem with UUC DSSR

Today I installed my UUC Evo 3 SSK with DSSR. When I took it for a test drive the DSSR is rubbing on, most likely, the vibration dampener which covers the guibo. WTF!

When I ordered the kit I specifically asked Rob if I would have a problem with this. And he assured me no. The kit took a month to get here and now this? Any one have issues with the DSSR? The car is a 4/1987 325i so I used the newer selector joint and everything was installed perfectly.

The DSSR that I have looks just like this:

In the picture in the instructions it shows one side of the DSSR having some metal shaved off of it in order to clear the guibo. Mine is identical on both sides. Did they send me the wrong one?

Again my guess is it is rubbing on the vibration dampener. I was actually surprised when I saw it because my E34 doesn't have one so I didn't even know what it was. So can this just be removed? I saw in another thread someone mentioned this. I would obviously just rather have it work right off the bat as Rob assured me it would. And unfortunately they are closed for the weekend so I can't call.

make sure it isn't hitting the bottom of the shifter, I had this issue when I installed it in my car (I have a B&M in the car and a it's retained with a circlip on the bottom so a portion of the shifter sits below the shifter housing), I could barely get 1 and 5 (I just replaced the trans and thought it was broken). I ended up flipping it over (opposite of what the directions specified) and it worked fine.

Also for the record is this the part you received (this is the pn# 187 I bought, it was a few years ago, so UUC might have changed the design slightly)?

You can remove the vibration dampener.

no that is not what I received. Mine is the same on both sides. It looks like the left side of the one in your pic, but on both sides. And I think it is rubbing on the vibration ring. I am not getting under the car again to take sh** apart now. I am too PISSED.

I know they have this write-up that describes bending the selector rod, but I'm pretty sure this wouldn't work with the DSSR.

I got mine on Thurs (have yet to install) and it's shaved down on both sides.

I selected "stock bmw shifter" though when I ordered, so I assume that's the difference?

You have to take the driveshaft bolts out, then remove it from around the Giubo.

Sounds like the geometry is off somewhere else in the system...

                1) How is your carrier rear mount? That would allow the carrier to hang down too far.

                2) Engine mounts possibly crushed? That would pivot the transmission up and raise the driveshaft (and flex disk with the oversized damper right behind it) up so that the damper would contact the rod.

                Solutions:

                a) Check your bushings - that's just good maintenance anyway.

                b) Get rid of that damper ring, it doesn't do anything.

Hey thanks Rob! The trans, and motor mounts are fine. I'll double check the carrier mount, but it looked fine. I am guessing it is the damper. I read one of your docs that said that a stock selector rod could and may need to be bent with cars that have the damper.

I just am thrown off because the DSSR I received had no parts shaved off it on the trans end of it, like shown the the instructions. Also, some other folks are telling me that you sent me the wrong dssr based on the photo. Their's had metal shaved off one end. Mine did not. I'll try to get the damper off tomorrow, and hopefully that will fix it.

I am not looking forward to dropping the exhaust again by myself. Unfortunately there is no way I can work around that :(

                      UPDATE:

So I took off the dampener and that allowed the DSSR to clear. It is just annoying that UUC said I didn't need to change anything for the DSSR to fit. I hope Rob includes this information for future customers. Oh well, lessen learned. Hope this thread helps others. And yes the damper/dampener does nothing from what I can tell. Like a said my e34 doesn't have it. All that said the UUC kit is pretty sweet. Very short, swift and precise shifts. A lot better than the broomstick in a bucket I had before.

This is where it was rubbing.

                      This was the culprit

And here it is without the dampener with about 15mm of clearance.
