    Clutch is gone

When i went out to my car this morning, my clutch was limp. There was no pressure pushing against me when i pushed it in, and it stayed down when i let my foot off the pedal. There was a puddle underneath the car. I have been told it is either the master or slave cylinder. I have a friend who is a mechanic who will fix it for free if i can find out which one it is, and if I pick up the parts. (saving myself about 300$ in parts/labor/towing) My dillemma is, how do i tel if the leak is from the master or the slave cylinder? He tried to explain it to me, but Im having trouble remembering. Any diagrams would be great and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

Replace both, if one failed the other probally isn't to far behind.
