    shifter arm question

I am confused on the shifter arm.. I got a sheet metal shifter arm with the drive shaft i bought.
From what I understand they changed from the sheet metal to the aluminum shifter arm for the 86 model years, which my car is.

the trans has 84 325e written on it, and appears to have the mounting points for the sheet metal shifter, but not for the aluminum one. am I just not seeing something?

Also, anyone know if the g240 shifter is the same as the g260 one?

The shifter console changed from the sheet metal type to the aluminum type starting with 9/86 production of 325is cars. The ETA cars used the sheet metal console until 9/87 when the Super ETA was introduced.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

What do you need to know about the shifter? The 84 transmission you have only accepts the sheet metal shifter. So that is what you have to use.

Well, that is almost entirely true. There are parts from a Euro E30 M3 that will adapt the aluminum shift console to that transmission. But the easy thing to do is to use the sheet metal console.

no that is the shifter arm that is sheet metal. the shifter is the 2 pieces that your shift knob, and selector rod connect to. (i.e. z3 1.9 shifter, short shift, etc.)
and what I need to know is if there is a difference in the stock shifter for a G240, and a stock G260 shifter.

          This:

seems like youve figured it out yourself.

and before you start getting lippy why dont you at least learn how to word a question.

the sheet metal vs aluminum parts are not shifter arms, they are shift carriers.

and finally wtf do you need to know about a g240 shifter? are you installing a g240 or just its shift lever. in either case pretty much all bmw shift levers are the same, only difference is throw ratios.

lippy? i was just trying to specify what part i was talking about. maybe you should learn what your talking about before responding. go look on realoem, that part IS called a shifting arm. look part number 5

the only part from a g240 i would install is the shifter. I'm not sure if its bend is the same thats why I asked.
